Following his tradition of using European styles of music to influence his sound, Zach Condon is said to have turned to a Spanish-Portugese sound. I guess this is what he meant when he wrote a letter after cancelling his European tour, and said: "It's come time to change some things, reinvent some others, and come back at some point with a fresh perspective and batch of songs." It seems that this came sooner than expected as he booked a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn and tried some of the new songs. Photograher Kyle Dean Reinford says of the performance: "My Wife," "The Shrew," "Benito Juarez" and "Leaotinito" made their supposed premiers last night and all featured horn sections that could only be categorized as the Spanish and/or Portuguese tradition. I don't know about all the others ("My Wife" was instrumental), but we were informed that "Leaotinito" is a Portuguese poem that may or may not have been written by Condon." 'O Leãozinho' is a song in Portugese written by Caetano Veloso, the original can be heard here. You can watch a video below of that night's performance of 'Nantes'. I hope that a bootleg of the performance surfaces.Beirut - Napoleon on the Bellerophon [zshare]
