<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Experts of Content Management Systems of today are opting for the Drupal platform to get optimal results for the projects they are involved in. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The excellence that is provided by the platform to the experts has been helping them to utilize many options of the platform in the web developments that are being done. Every <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developer</a> needs to understand the availability of options he or she can use to complete a task or develop an entity in the project. The controls which can be obtained by utilizing the platform are extensive and these controls give more flexibility for the website moderators to play with.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Streamlining the business aspects in a website or a web based application has become a vital marketing move today. Having a competent web platform for a business has become a necessity than a luxury. The properties and the attributes of the website that is developed for the use of a business can be changed and manipulated according to the needs of the changing trends and these trends decide if the website that has been developed is a hit amongst the masses or not. Today there are even web stores and other business related sites which are getting adapted to the new internet ways. Even memes are being incorporated as elements of attraction by <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal programmer</a> today. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The communication that happens between the website or the business and the clients becomes very crucial for the developments that happen for the company or the establishment, this streamlining of communication acts as an important bridge between the clients and the company. Every Drupal developer develops the project of website development keeping the options for the administrator of the website to check and view the log details of it. The information which can be obtained through these log files is very important such as the number of users online currently in the website, the total number of users active in the website in the past one hour. Using these statistics from the website the administrator and the owners can get an idea about the traffic that the website is generating and also start devising strategies for developing the scope of their business.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As Drupal developers can provide a website which is Search Engine Optimization friendly the marketing aspects of the website and the business can also be taken care of. Today marketing a website is as important as marketing a business venture and this is the reason for the developers to optimize a website for a search engine. Other Search engine marketing strategies such as link building and Adwords also could be used for increasing the traffic for a website which will garner more popularity of the business too. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The demand for the content
management system known as Drupal has grown immensely and the demand for such
developers and programmers have also grown. But as the demand grows it is
natural for the people to go towards such a platform for their escalation for
better realms. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
There is absolute growth in the
field and it has become evident with hundreds of thousands of websites
migrating to Drupal platform. For each and every requirement of information
everybody is looking into the computer and asking their search engine. This
dependency has triggered the process of optimization of websites according to
the needs of search engines and these tasks of optimization are trying to be
nullified by the search engines. This is where <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developers</a> make the task
of developing a content filled web platform simple and straightforward. The way
in which the administrators and moderators can manipulate content which is
available in a website using the Drupal platform is highly flexible making it
simple for the <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal programmers</a> to handle the platform during the process of
project development. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The look which can be attained
for a website when Drupal is implemented in the process of development definitely
stands differently from the other types of development which are done. The
tools and functions which are provided to a <a href="http://www.dckap.com/" target="_blank">Drupal developer</a> is exceptionally
well defined which meets the requirements of the developer to find new and
innovative methods to develop, design and provide solutions to his or her
clients. When such innovative concepts are implemented in projects for the web
the traffic which is acquired by the web platform also increases this becomes a
very important as every website exists for the sole purpose of attracting more
users.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
These visitors become loyal users
only if they get impressed with the user interface and the easy to use
navigation. If using the website itself becomes a difficult task then they will
not be interested in seeking the website’s help for completing their task. <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal experts</a> need to understand these aspects for them to develop projects which
turn to be user friendly and popular. The whole platform is driven by quality
which means that there is a myriad of themes and functionalities which will

There is a online business-owner
coming into the market every now and then and the need for him or her to sustain
in the market is very high and the need for every Drupal expert to understand
this is also highly vital. With such functionalities being prevalent in the
platform itself, the rest falls in the hands of the developers and in the way
they efficiently use it.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
PHP is one of the few available server side scripting
language which has been designed specifically for the Web. Each time a page
visited the PHP code embedded by the PHP developer in that HTML page gets executed.
The code implemented by the PHP programmers is interpreted at the web server
and further it generates output as HTML or in other user viewable formats.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.dckap.com/php-web-application-development.htm" target="_blank">PHP developers</a> can use, alter and redistribute the source
code without having to pay for the code as PHP is an open source project. <a href="http://www.dckap.com/php-web-application-development.htm" target="_blank">PHPprogrammers</a> originally named it as an abbreviation for Personal Home Page but
later in accordance with the GNU convention it has been changed to Hypertext

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Reason for Using PHP</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Any kind of platform can be used by a <a href="http://www.dckap.com/php-web-application-development.htm" target="_blank">PHP programmer</a> to
build a website from the scratch but there are some key points the PHP
developer has to understand before starting to build. They are:</div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin-left: 72.45pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Symbol; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">·<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">

<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 72.45pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: -0.25in;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Some of these choices are variable as the PHP developers
developing website may build on a certain platform using a different tool.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
A very huge advantage in using PHP is that the <a href="http://www.dckap.com/php-web-application-development.htm" target="_blank">PHP developer</a>
developing a code base using it can develop it in a very portable way that it
becomes a multi-platform friendly code.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Some Basic Advantages of PHP</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Performance</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
For PHP programmers, performance is based on many aspects
and the top most of those aspects is time. Using PHP the PHP developers can
develop websites at a rapid pace. The process of PHP development can be done
using a single server which will reduce the cost of development. The increased
pace of developing enable the PHP programmers to develop more codes in less
time.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Scalability</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
PHP is considered as a “share-nothing” architecture which is
an interfaced platform which does not duplicate any of its components or
entities which helps the PHP developers in decreasing in inconsistencies. This
also enables the PHP developer developing the website can effectively and cost
efficiently integrate horizontal scaling with large number of commodity

PHP can be connected by <a href="http://www.dckap.com/php-web-application-development.htm" target="_blank">PHP developers</a> to many databases systems
via native connections. In addition to MySQL a PHP programmer can use
PostgreSQL, Oracle, dbm, FilePro, DB2, HyperWave, Informix, Interwave and
Sybase database. The built-in SQL interface to a flat file called SQLite.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
PHP Developers can use Open Database Connectivity Standard
(ODBC) to connect to any database that provides an ODBC driver. Microsoft
products are also included in this pack of drivers.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
PHP programmers can also enable the use of an access
abstraction layer called PHP Database Objects in addition to the native
libraries contained by PHP. This layer provides the PHP programmers with
consistent access and promotes secure coding practices.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
As the syntax of PHP is based on the various programming
languages such as C and Perl, if a PHP programmer aspirant has knowledge of
these languages then the PHP developer can become productive almost

Drupal is an open source content
management system written in PHP language and a powerful tool for creating web
applications. With Drupal, developers can build web applications of any scale.
Ranging from small basic applications to extensive sophisticated web
applications, Drupal developers are able to develop with ease using Drupal.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Many web application developers
opt for Drupal for its extensive and versatile features. Being a content
management system, Drupal satisfies all extensibility needs in a very fast way
which helps <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developers </a>to be ahead of other developers using other
content management systems.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
A database is a definite
requirement for its function as the application has to be built on a platform
acting as a foundation and it is very useful in developing dynamic web apps.
Drupal has become irreplaceable as it provides unique tools for web development.
Certain functions which are so indispensable are provided only in Drupal which
are vital for efficient web development.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The core file system of Drupal
can be extended according the drupal developer’s requirements using UI, modules
and themes. User information, logging information, site settings, module
settings, content, and content related data can be tracked using Drupal
database.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Primary language being used to
develop web applications by <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developers</a> is English but with the new
updates from Drupal it has become possible for developers to use the language
they are proficient in and then translate it to Drupal friendly language. The
two major translation tools provided to Drupal developers are:</div>

<li><span style="font-family: Symbol; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";"></span></span></span><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Location

English which is a Drupal friendly language.</li>

Content, configuration, and user
interface are the important information which has to be converted. To be able
to develop in the way the Drupal developer has to be proficient in two
important aspects:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Internationalization:</b> This is a process of developing web/software applications which adjusts to various diverse locations and its languages without every Drupal developer making complicated technical changes. This is a framework which enables a developer to develop a unique web page in 17 different languages and then direct them to other pages of the website according to the user’s choice of location.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /><b>Localization:</b> Using this process Drupal developers convert an international Drupal product into a Local product which is comprehended by a selected group of users in a location using locale-specific components or translating text. To change the content of the website Localization can be used. Factors to be taken into consideration are: </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li>According to each language to which the content has been translated the design and overall appearance of the website may vary. For example when content is translated from English to Japanese, the way the content is presented may change from the number of words to the way the sentence is arranged.</li>
<li>Dialects of languages have to be chosen wisely. The chosen dialect should be the most commonly used one.</li>
<li>Numbers and figures like date, time, and currencies should be specifically translated to match each region. </li>
</ul>

features and functions are provided by distributions for specific sites and can
be customized accordingly. The ways of Utilizing, Upgrading and Customizing are
discussed below.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Utilizing Distribution </span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">Distributing
Drupal is mostly the first step done by a <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developer</a></b> during the process
of developing a site. The easiest way to use a distribution is by starting the
installation process in Drupal from the scratch without having any leftover
data from the last installation.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">Once
the initial installation is done the <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developers</a></b> can access other sources
and migrate in content from them. The Drupal developer may use one or more
already existing websites too, to carry content from.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">Migrating
content from various assorted pages to the pages present in the new website is
almost as simple as copying data from the old site and pasting it to the new
site. But for sites which have content above the average size then scripts to
customize the process of migration have to be written or even already existing
modules of Drupal such as Migrate, Feeds etc can be used. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">Methods of Upgrading</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">An
already existing Drupal page with huge content or/and a database of users with
customizable elements can be carried over by directly upgrading the site by the
Drupal developer in such a way that it can use the distribution directly. This process
used by some of the Drupal developers has helped them in saving a lot of time
taken to migrate content. But the Drupal developers faced certain challenges
when this type of process was employed. Drupal programmers recommend the
process of upgrading the content only if the Drupal developers have time to
troubleshoot and customize the migrated content.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">Tackling Issues during
Upgrading</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">Configurations
of a Drupal site can be exported to another as most distributions are built
using the module called ‘Features’. These configurations include content types,
fields, views, and so on and these components are integrated into the code
which will enable these components on multiple sites.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">When
components like content types and fields are being exported by the <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal programmer</a></b> to a new site then these components have to be marked with labels
called as ‘Machine Names’. This Machine Name given by the Drupal programmer
will remain the same for these components in whichever site they are integrated
on and this is a way to keep a track of these components as well as to avoid
inconsistencies in naming.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">When
a distribution is installed from the scratch then the <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal programmers</a></b> can be
sure that an inconsistency will not arise due to conflict but if the Drupal
programmer has converted a site into a one which is based on distribution then an
inconsistency may arise due to the conflict created by two components with the
same name. To avoid adding a component with a name which an already present
component has, the Machine Name is used. When such an error happens then the
task of resolving the problem for the <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal developers</a></b> becomes extremely
toiling. When distribution creates a field with a new field name and if the new
field name is used by an already existing field of a different type than the
one being created newly by the distribution.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;">If
these issues are addressed properly then upgrading distributions can be vitally
utilized.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Drupal is an open source content
management system written in PHP language and a powerful tool for creating web
applications. With Drupal, developers can build web applications of any scale.
Ranging from small basic applications to extensive sophisticated web
applications, <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal programmers</a> are able to develop with ease using Drupal.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Many web application developers
opt for Drupal for its extensive and versatile features. Being a content
management system, Drupal satisfies all extensibility needs in a very fast way
which helps <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal developers </a>to be ahead of other developers using other
content management systems.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The core file system of Drupal
can be extended according the drupal developer’s requirements using UI, modules
and themes. User information, logging information, site settings, module
settings, content, and content related data can be tracked using Drupal
database.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Primary language being used to
develop web applications by Drupal developers is English but with the new
updates from Drupal it has become possible for developers to use the language
they are proficient in and then translate it to Drupal friendly language. The
two major translation tools provided to Drupal developers are:<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Location Component: </b>This tool can be used for changing the in-built
components of the program such as products, choice brands such as ‘Login’,
‘Logout’, ‘View’, ‘Edit’ etc.<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Content Translation:</b> If the Drupal developer of the web page has
developed the site in a native language then this option can be utilized to
translate it into English which is a <a href="http://drupal.org/">Drupal</a> friendly language.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Content, configuration, and user
interface are the important information which has to be converted. To be able
to develop in the way the Drupal developer has to be proficient in two
important aspects:<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Internationalization:</b> This is a process of developing web/software
applications which adjusts to various diverse locations and its languages
without every <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal developer</a> making complicated technical changes. This is a
framework which enables a developer to develop a unique web page in 17
different languages and then direct them to other pages of the website
according to the user’s choice of location.<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b> </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Localization:</b> Using this process Drupal developers convert an
international Drupal product into a Local product which is comprehended by a
selected group of users in a location using locale-specific components or
translating text. To change the content of the website Localization can be
used. Factors to be taken into consideration are:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
According to each language to
which the content has been translated the design and overall appearance of the
website may vary. For example when content is translated from English to
Japanese, the way the content is presented may change from the number of words
to the way the sentence is arranged.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Dialects of languages have to be
chosen wisely. The chosen dialect should be the most commonly used one.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Numbers and figures like date,
time, and currencies should be specifically translated to match each region.</div>

drupal through the system layers:-</span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"> </span></span>
<br />
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">At the base of the system
is the collection of node it is the data pool. Before anything can be displayed
on the site, it must be input as data.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"></span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">The next layer up is where
modules live. Modules are functional plugins. Modules build on Drupal's core
functionality. There are thousands of different options within the fast-growing
repository of contributed Drupal modules. They represent the innovation and
collaborative effort of everyone from individuals to large corporations.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"></span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">At the next layer found are
blocks and menus. Blocks often provide the output from a module or can be
created to display whatever developer wants.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"></span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">Next are user permissions.
This is where settings are configured to determine what different kinds of
users are allowed to do and see. Permissions are defined for various roles, and
in turn, users are assigned to these roles in order to grant them the defined
permissions.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">On the top layer is the
site theme -the "skin". This is made up predominantly of XHTML and
CSS, with some PHP variables intermixed, so Drupal-generated content can go in
the appropriate spots</span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">The original creator and project lead for the Drupal open source web
publishing and collaboration platform, Dries Buytaert was full of optimism and
enthusiasm for the coming year.</span></span></li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">Here are some of the predictions on Drupal this 2012.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">As Drupal gains in popularity, the number of developers/shops getting
involved will increase, and the Drupal ecosystem on the whole will expand
greatly. However, there could be a danger that individual companies who don't
invest in marketing may actually see fewer clients as a result. Marketing will
be a much larger focus of the business community in 2012.</span></span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">2012 will be the year of the Drupal entrepreneur. Drupal companies who
specialize in one particular aspect, such as Pantheon, Drupal Commerce, and
Tag1 Consulting have seen a lot of success or promise in 2011, but there are
many more niches to fill, and many niches that have plenty of room for multiple
companies.</span></span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">Drupal, with a revamped administrative interface, is well suited for web
applications of any kind from web logs (blogs) and micro sites to collaborative
social communities. Drupal sports a new user interface, accessibility
improvements, better image handling capabilities, support for rich content
metadata, security features, scalability and database interoperability enhancements
and automated tests to ensure stability.</span></span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal developers</a> might experiment with more of a client/server model.
That is, people will use distributions as a way to sell different kinds of
hosted services.</span></span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: Symbol; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;"></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 150%;">Usability is still the number one reason people choose competing
solutions to Drupal. Not because the existing features are hard to use —
usability of Drupal was vastly improved in Drupal 7 — but because of lack of
out-of-the-box features, such as content workflow and content staging tools,
accurate content previews, WYSIWYG, media handling, and scheduling. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></b></span></span></li>

This post aims to share information about the Drupal Security Team in
2011 and midway through 2012. The team processed a significant number
of security advisories, added a few members, improved the free education
materials in the handbooks, presented at dozens of camps and user
groups, and made several improvements to our workflow (including some
user facing changes, see below).<br />
Some quick numbers:<br />
<ul>
<li><strong>3 team meetings</strong> at Drupalcon Chicago, Drupalcon London and Drupal Denver</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://drupal.org/security">3 core security releases in 2011</a></strong> compared to 2 in 2010</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://drupal.org/security/contrib">59 contributed project security releases in 2011</a></strong> compared to 113 in 2010</li>
<li><strong>137 issues</strong> created on our private issue tracker in 2011 - security.drupal.org</li>
<li><strong>1645 comments</strong> created on those issues on security.drupal.org in 2011 (including automated comments)</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal?issue_tags=Security%20improvements">dozens of issues</a></strong> were reported to the team and became public issues because they <a href="http://drupal.org/security-advisory-policy">are not supported</a> in our private process</li>
</ul>
You may notice that for the calendar year of 2011 there were fewer
SAs than there were issues created. There are lots of reasons why that
happens (mostly invalid issues or issues that affect versions not
supported by our policy).<br />
<br />
<b>Improved security issue reporting process</b><br />
This change is so exciting that it deserves its own section in
addition to being listed below. The "Report a Security Issue" link on
project pages now links directly to the security.drupal.org issue queue
for that project. Using that link instead of sending an e-mail removes
one of the final "copy/paste" jobs from the security team’s workflow.<br />

<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Drupal is an
open-source content management system (CMS) and content management framework
(CMF) written in PHP. It is also used for knowledge management and business

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">The standard release of
Drupal, known as Drupal core, contains basic features common to content
management systems. These include user account registration and maintenance,
menu management, RSS-feeds, page layout customization, and system
administration. CKEditor 3.6.3 was released by Drupal is a unique solution that
integrates the online editor into the Drupal content management system which is
reliable for <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">drupal developers</a></b>. This release brings CKEditor version to 3.6.3,
introduces CKFinder version 2.2.1, and includes some fixes specific for the
Drupal integration.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">CKEditor 3.6.3 is a
maintenance release that contains few bug fixes and few new features like
including a new image and table alignment option and some accessibility
enhancements for the color picker dialog window as well as enhanced Esc key
support. Starting from this version the editor now makes it possible to align
images just by using the Align toolbar buttons. Various issues with the editor
content scrolling to the top in Internet Explorer have been fixed.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">CKFinder is the file

version 2.2.1. This version contains new features like HTML5 multiple file
uploads, drag and drop uploads, read-only mode, and the lightbox plug-in, as

fixes a Chrome 18 bug that makes it impossible to display the CKFinder popup in
the browser after clicking the "Browse Server" button in the editor.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">From this release
onwards, a new security filters policy that protects user from executing
malicious code that is already in your database was introduced. In order to
configure the security filters, enter the profile configuration for the
CKEditor module and go to the Security section. The CKEditor for Drupal module
includes built-in support for security filter modules which needs to be downloaded
and installed by users. Detailed information about the security filters policy
as well as supported modules is available in the CKEditor module documentation.</span></div>

simplified method of customizing the styles for the document created in
CKEditor and populating the Styles drop-down list with style definitions added
in an external CSS stylesheet file. Fixes specific for both Drupal 6 and Drupal
7 versions are also added.</span><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span></div>

I selected <a href="http://buytaert.net/angela-webchick-byron" rel="nofollow">Angela "webchick" Byron</a>
as my co-maintainer for Drupal 7 back in DrupalCon Szeged in August
2008. Since then, together we shepherded efforts of 1,000 core
contributors to create Drupal 7, got the release out the door in January
of last year, and worked hard thereafter to stabilize Drupal 7, to the
point that <a href="http://drupal.org/project/usage/drupal" rel="nofollow">the number of Drupal 7 sites eclipsed the number of Drupal 6 sites earlier this year</a>.<br />
<br />
However, Angela's level of responsibility in the community has grown
significantly in the past 3.5 years, and she wears many hats, from
Drupal Association board member to code sprint planner to Drupal.org
coordinator to evangelist to general community cat herder. We both felt
that it was time to transition the role of Drupal 7 core co-maintainer
off of her plate, in order to give her more time to focus on her other
community roles.<br />
When thinking about replacements for Angela, David Rothstein was at
the top of my list. David was a key contributor to Drupal 7 and heavily
involved in a wide range of issues throughout the code base. He was also
on the Drupal Gardens team, developing against Drupal 7 while it was
still in active development, and so has a very thorough and deep
understanding of Drupal 7's internals. David is extremely conscientious
and thorough in his reviews, and is incredibly calm and respectful in
his communication style.<br />
<br />
I'm thrilled to say that David accepted the invitation to join the
core co-maintainer team, and will have time to work on managing Drupal 7
releases through community time provided by his current employer, <a href="http://www.advomatic.com/" rel="nofollow">Advomatic</a>. David will not be committing to the Drupal 8 branch, but will be focused on guaranteeing the quality of Drupal 7.</div>Flex Developer, Joomla Web Designshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01525804110984535073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3192654816115066909.post-5523004303503459042012-05-17T21:08:00.002-07:002012-05-17T21:08:18.152-07:00Merits of Drupal and Updates on Drupal Camps<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Drupal is developed into one of the most complex open-source content
management systems (CMS) on the market and is represented by an array of
top notch sites. Drupal is the perfect choice for large Enterprise
websites that has high traffic. Drupal is famous for its relatively
rapid build time. It is also known for its dynamic nature as websites
designed on the Drupal framework can be altered by modifying modules.
Drupal can be used to manage easily all aspects of a website, from
adding content and images to updating a product catalogue, processing
credit card payments or taking online reservations.<br />
<br />
Drupal is a cost effective CMS solution as it allows <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal programmers</a>
to develop complex websites in minimal time period compared to what it
would take using other commercial CMS technologies. There are thousands
of community-contributed modules that extend the flexibility of Drupal,
so the chances of Drupal supporting almost all the features is high; and
if at all a drupal developer can't find a module that suits the
requirements, the developer can program new modules quickly and
efficiently. After installing a Drupal website and is made to run, it is
simple for non-technical users to add or edit content, update images,
and to manage the critical data. Basic word processing skills is enough
to manage a Drupal site<br />
<br />
In addition, to above advantages Drupal offers strategic capabilities
for search engine optimization and infrastructure flexibility:<br />
<br />
• Friendly URLs – Drupal uses Apache’s mod_rewrite to enable URLs
that are both user- and search engine-friendly, which can help your
search rankings.<br />
<br />
• Permalinks – All content created in Drupal has a permanent link or
“permalink” associated with it so users can link to content freely
without fear of broken links, another feature that is likely to boost
search ranking and page views.<br />
<br />
• Taxonomy and Tagging – Drupal enables you to define hierarchical
categories that can be used to tag and organize content, as well as
fields for content authors to apply free tags. Tagging content can help
enhance your site’s organization, enable related content linking, and
assist in the definition of meta-keywords that can boost search
rankings.<br />
<br />
• Platform Flexibility – Drupal was designed from the start to be
multi-platform. It can be installed and run on Apache, Linux, Solaris,
Windows, and Mac OSX platforms.<br />
<br />
2012 is indeed a great year for <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal Developers</a>
as they get opportunity to get together with other developers in the
same field to share their ideas and enhance their insights about Drupal
programming and its updates. Drupal camps are held all over the world
this year. This article will give you details where the Drupal camps
were held and where all it is going to conducted. The following is the
list when and where various Drupal camps are held:<br />
<br />
Maryland Drupal Camp February 10th - 11th, 2012<br />
Stanford Drupal Camp May 1, 2012<br />
Baltimore Drupal Camp May 8, 2012<br />
Dublin Drupal Camp May 18-19, 2012<br />
Lyon, France Drupal Camp May 26-27, 2012<br />
Vancouver Drupal Camp, Canada June 2, 2012<br />
Madison Drupal Camp, 26 & 28 July, 2012<br />
Delhi, India Drupal Camp November 1st week<br />
<br />
During these conferences Drupal developers / programmers will be
immersed in the world of Drupal. Through a wide range of presentations
one will learn more about all the latest <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal development</a>.
Tricks and tools to easily keep tabs on your website's usage,
performance, security, and content, leveraging existing data, practical
decisions based on Drupal data, visualized and various other valuable
thoughts will be shared by <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal expert</a>.</div>Flex Developer, Joomla Web Designshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01525804110984535073noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3192654816115066909.post-40639924824836817672012-05-13T21:43:00.000-07:002012-05-13T21:43:23.352-07:00New maintainers and plans for Drupal 7<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Back in 2009, Groups.Drupal.Org (GDO) went through <a href="http://drupal.org/node/433792">a major transition</a>
including upgrading from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6, a redesign, and adding
new maintainers. We are currently in the process of a similar
transition. The site has already gone through a redesign, and as we make
plans to transition to Drupal 7, we will also be moving to new
maintainers for the next year.<br />
<br />
<b>Making it easier to contribute to GDO</b><br />
Between the Drupal Association’s initiative to improve *.drupal.org, the <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/213898">community brainstorming on site improvements</a>, and <a href="http://drupal.org/project/issues/groupsdrupalorg?text=&status=Open&priorities=All&categories=feature&version=All&component=All">feature requests in the Groups.Drupal.Org issue queue</a>,
there is clearly a lot of interest in making improvements to GDO.
However, for folks who want to roll up their sleeves and help by filing a
patch, the path to replicating GDO for development purposes hasn’t
always been clear. As a strategy for making it easier for anyone in the
Drupal community to file a patch and streamlining maintenance efforts
for the site, <a href="http://drupal.org/node/1524868">we have proposed that GDO will run the Commons distribution</a> of Drupal for Drupal 7. Of course, this means that improvements made to GDO benefit sites powered by <a href="http://drupal.org/project/commons">Drupal Commons</a> and vice-versa, that generic improvements to Commons will benefit GDO.<br />

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">
The most awaited software Drupal8 which is yet to be released has
created constant interest and expectations over the advanced features it
will possess compared to its previous version Drupal7. Drupal 7 has
been in development since February 2008 and was released during Jan
2011. The key features of Drupal7 includes<br />
<br />
<b>Great usability improvements</b><br />
<br />
Drupal
7 features a menu bar built in, with quick shortcuts for things like
creating and finding content (which should have icons eventually). It
also has a customizable dashboard feature, which lets an individual to
arrange blocks to show the most recent comments, quick links, etc. when
you login, kind of like Wordpress. It also improves the organization of
forms – which used to get incredibly long. Now instead of an endless sea
of collapsible boxes, there is a set of tabs at the end of the form,
letting you set things like revision information, comment settings,
urls, etc. It’s also easier to change input formats, now using a drop
down box. <br />
<br />
<b>Less modules to download</b><br />
<br />
Usually
whenever an individual starts a new Drupal site, one needs to download
CCK and Imagecache before doing much of anything. In Drupal 7, they’re
built in. One can add a new text field, image field, file field, etc. to
a content type right out of the box. Imagecache, renamed Image Styles,
is there as well, so you can crop and resize pictures. <br />
<br />
<b> Now with unit testing</b><br />
<br />
One
can’t see this feature in the interface, but unit testing is huge leap
forward for Drupal’s source code. It now uses the Simple Test framework
to automatically make sure everything is functioning correctly, and that
means less bugs. It also means that in the future, <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal developer</a></b> will be able to make changes more confidently, without having to worry if they’re breaking something. <br />
<br />
Even though it is too early to talk about the features as the code freeze of <b><a href="http://www.groups.drupal.org/drupal-initiatives">Drupal</a></b> 8 will occur not before 1st week of December 2012, here are some of the great things speculated to be included in Drupal8 are:-<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li> Better HTML5 </li>
<li> Better mobile support</li>
<li> Improved multilingual features</li>
<li> Setting up Drupal 8 on a modern web development framework</li>
</ul>
<b>Apart from the above <a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm">Drupal developers</a> are trying to overcome the following issues faced by Drupal7:-</b><br />
<br />
Learning
Curve: Once an individual gets familiar with the basic mechanics of the
system, it becomes second nature in how to do the most common things
via programming. However, getting to that point requires referencing the
documentation a lot in the beginning. The curve has steepened with
Drupal 7, with the introduction of entities but in most cases one won’t
need to create a custom entity. Also learning how to best use the theme
layer can take time in figuring out.<br />
<br />
Security Concerns Just like
any other shared code, the risk of someone taking advantage of a
security flaw is greater than it is with a totally custom system. One
can minimize this risk by keeping the code up to date with security
updates. <br />
<br />
Updating: Updating the core code is not difficult. But when compared to <b><a href="http://www.wordpress.com/">Wordpress</a></b>,
it is a little more time consuming especially when one does it via FTP.
There are ways in speeding up this process. But most people won’t know
how to take advantage of these techniques.<br />
<br />
Lack of Documentation:
When Drupal 7 first became stable, there was very little as far as
completed documentation. This made the learning curve even more
difficult. Be prepared to have to do multiple Google searches in finding
sample code that helps you along. Hopefully in the next year this will
not be an issue.<br />
<br />
Speed: There is a performance hit when using a
system like this with all of the moving parts of the system. The cache
does help things, but it still is not the fastest system out there. An
improvement can be definitely seen through Drupal 8.<br />
<br />
Drupal 8 is
the first development cycle introducing so called Core initiatives.
These are areas with named leads to improve <b><a href="http://www.dckap.com/drupal-development.htm" target="_blank">Drupal programmers</a></b> core in certain
areas. However, this does not limit core development to these main
areas; there are many community initiatives as well. The reality is that
Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 are still very similar. </div>

It has grown out of the needs of the traditional publishing industry to manage photographic images for print publications, and developed into an adjunct of web content management to manage still images, video and audio files as "rich media" content for web sites and other media.<br />
<a href="" name="more"></a> <br />
In some cases, such as at a large distance learning University I worked at in the U.K., all content that is pulled together for "publication" as part of a production process is referred to as a "digital asset," including textual content (in the form of XML), with the aim of reaching that content management nirvana of "create once — publish many" by re-purposing the assets to customize the content for a particular media.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0N85OFp85hoX3cc_ny_iDkVCkjCVLoDBOtEChi4Tjbbn2l0j-8d92VLzRgQ4R4RTilJC_79tej2ITo9z14FK4FX_KQQKcB8z9Lk3k8_JMKpOS0yRvgPL_lKlDjKSYaFU7GzVUxwdIfmRB/s1600/idealistic+open+text+dam.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0N85OFp85hoX3cc_ny_iDkVCkjCVLoDBOtEChi4Tjbbn2l0j-8d92VLzRgQ4R4RTilJC_79tej2ITo9z14FK4FX_KQQKcB8z9Lk3k8_JMKpOS0yRvgPL_lKlDjKSYaFU7GzVUxwdIfmRB/s1600/idealistic+open+text+dam.png" /></a></div>Just as an example, while using the CMS Wire content management system to write this article, I went to the "insert picture" facility which allowed me to browse all the images that have been previously uploaded, and choose the graphic above from Open Text. The facility allows me to see some metadata such as file size and also a thumbnail image of the graphic.<br />
<br />
Obviously this is a simplistic use case, which in the Open Text DAM world view as shown above, fits into the right hand side of the graphic as "media use" example.<br />

More than 3,000 Drupal developers and users attended, all focusing on the theme of "Collaborative Publishing for Every Device." To this end, Drupal founder Dries Buytaert discussed how the <a href="http://symfony.com/">Symfony 2 PHP framework</a> will play a key role on building "a rich mobile experience."<br />
<br />
March also brought full support for Drupal distribution packaging. This addition enables distribution participants to develop with a consistent set of tools for managing version control, releases, issue tracking, collaboration and documentation. New features include support for external libraries, patches and development snapshots.<br />
<br />
Those waiting eagerly for Drupal 8 can expect the feature freeze on December 1, the code freeze on February 1, 2013, and a proposed final release during August 2013. In the meantime, the call for papers and registration for <a href="http://munich2012.drupal.org/">DrupalCon Munich</a> (August 20-24) has opened. Other upcoming events are DrupalCon Sao Paolo, Brazil (December 2012) and DrupalCon Portland, Ore. (2013).<br />
<br />
Drupal company Acquia (<a href="http://www.cmswire.com/news/topic/acquia">news</a>, <a href="http://acquia.com/">site</a>) released its <a href="https://cloudapi.acquia.com/">Acquia Cloud API</a>. This API allows developers to extend, enhance, and customize the Acquia Cloud. There are two major components to the API:<br />
<ul><li>A RESTful web interface allowing control of Acquia Cloud sites. Current features include support for developer workflow, database and backup management.</li>
<li>Cloud Hooks, which are scripts in your code repository that Acquia Cloud executes when triggering an action.</li>
</ul>Acquia also announced <a href="http://www.acquia.com/products-services/drupal-gardens">Enterprise Drupal Gardens</a>, a <a href="http://www.cmswire.com/news/topic/saas+cms">SaaS</a> offering that gives Enterprise users:<br />
<ul><li>Access to Drupal CMS capabilities such as dynamic content mashups, photo and video galleries, custom content, forms and surveys and social web experiences</li>
<li>The ability to design with WYSIWYG tools that let you point and click to style page elements and themes, as well as advanced CSS tools</li>
<li>The option to manage user logins through social and sharing features, letting them use IDs from Facebook (<a href="http://www.cmswire.com/news/topic/facebook/">news</a>, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/">site</a>), Twitter, Google+ and other popular social and business networks</li>
<li>Rich media support, with the ability to embed video, images, RSS items and article previews from more than 200 sources, by pasting a URL</li>
<li>One management dashboard for your Enterprise Drupal Gardens sites</li>
<li>Predefined site templates where you can set brand guidelines with information architecture, page layout, content types, navigation, roles and permissions</li>
<li>One-click site duplication from a template or an existing site</li>
<li>The ability to integrate with third-party systems, whether you're adding Javascript libraries or accessing data from third-party analytics systems.</li>

We believe that by improving core, we improve the entire Drupal experience for everyone.</strong><br />
<br />
How are we doing this? By working with core initiatives, providing ideas, sketches, wireframes, detailed designs, and actively engaging in discussion. D7UX taught us a lot of hard lessons, we now know how to communicate our design rationale more clearly, maintain a UX vision throughout the maze of issues, and empower developers.<br />
<br />
What are we working on? We are working on a few initiatives; mobile, blocks & layouts, multilingual and leading a lot of smaller efforts around improving our content authoring and site building experiences. <br />
<h2><span style="font-size: small;">Drupal 8 design progress so far</span></h2><h3><span style="font-size: small;">Content creation</span></h3>Our content creation experience is still far from being great, but we have been improving the content creation experience from all angles. We have received lots of feedback on our proposals, and iterated with the community on various parts of this experience.<br />
<ul><li>Research on a <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/214898" rel="nofollow">interaction model for the content creation page</a></li>
<li><a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/214898" rel="nofollow">Redesigning the Create Content page</a></li>
<li><a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/219099" rel="nofollow">Find content iterations</a></li>
</ul>We have now finalized most of our research activities and we want to start implementing a few of our major ideas. For this to happen, we need developers who want to improve this part of core.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFEcWXsv13FKCvfssNarT8IXunJSr0AzmNiPfeYwX96lDdYeq2hfBWSnxkmUMI7rC2SOWc5Z2IjRFbsEMl6xW2DbDSxFLF2zD_NuMpIPEwSUA3PsytksVJGqRs5sa7Cs3H8b5Lcfa3qJUO/s1600/ux_sprinting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFEcWXsv13FKCvfssNarT8IXunJSr0AzmNiPfeYwX96lDdYeq2hfBWSnxkmUMI7rC2SOWc5Z2IjRFbsEMl6xW2DbDSxFLF2zD_NuMpIPEwSUA3PsytksVJGqRs5sa7Cs3H8b5Lcfa3qJUO/s1600/ux_sprinting.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<h3><span style="font-size: small;">UX team activity</span></h3>The team has been busy in Q1 2012:<br />
<ul><li>Becky Gessler, Garen Checkly and Jen Lampton conducted a usability study at the Google offices, resulting in a <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/218959" rel="nofollow">detailed findings report</a> and Drupalcon Denver core conversation talk on how to solve it.</li>
<li>Lisa Rex, Dharmesh Mistry (dcmistry), Erik Stielstra (sutha), Alexander Ross (bleen18) have done a total of <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/211233" rel="nofollow">22 interviews</a> about how people use the module page.</li>
<li>Lewis Nyman has been working hard on designing Drupal’s mobile interface, resulting in interesting discussions around <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/188744" rel="nofollow">navigation</a>, <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/207283" rel="nofollow">principles</a> and actual implementation of ideas in the <a href="http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal?issue_tags=mobile" rel="nofollow">mobile issue queue</a>.</li>
<li>Roy Scholten (yoroy) has presented on <a href="http://denver2012.drupal.org/content/core-product-3-magic-number" rel="nofollow">Core product: 3 is the magic number</a> and organised several sprints around UX at Drupalcon. There was also a BoF.</li>
<li>Jared Ponchot has been contributing design proposals, to our effort to redesign the content creation page.</li>
<li>Kristjan Jansen (kika), Jeff Noyes (Noyz) and Kevin O'Leary (tkoleary), Michael Keara (UserAdvocate) have put out various ideas around <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/207213" rel="nofollow">media UX</a>, <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/216419" rel="nofollow">creating UI standards for add/edit flows</a>, <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/219099" rel="nofollow">optimizing the content listing</a> and <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/222034" rel="nofollow">research</a> for the Blocks & layout initiative.</li>
</ul>We have also released our ideas around redesigning the module page, adding a project browser to core, adding search everywhere, draft revisions and much more in the <a href="http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal?issue_tags=Usability" rel="nofollow">usability issue queue</a>!<br />

It’s time for a quarterly update on what’s happening in the Documentation team.<br />
<br />
First off, I just want to remind everyone that I’m still planning to step down as Documentation Team Leader at the end of 2012. If you’re interested in becoming the co-leader or assistant leader now, and taking over at the end of 2012 as the main team leader, see <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/203258" rel="nofollow" title="http://groups.drupal.org/node/203258">http://groups.drupal.org/node/203258</a> for more information. It would be good to find someone soon!<br />
<h2>Events</h2><ul><li>The Documentation Team is currently holding weekly <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/145039" rel="nofollow">"Documentation Office Hours"</a>—one-hour IRC meetings on Tuesday afternoon (North American time), open to anyone for questions and discussions about contributing to documentation. This schedule is likely to change soon; <a href="http://groups.drupal.org/node/220804" rel="nofollow">join the discussion about a new time for office hours</a>.</li>
<li>The API documentation cleanup sprint from last quarter has continued into this quarter. The goal is to bring the Drupal 7 and 8 core API documentation much more in line with our documentation standards. To join in, <a href="http://drupal.org/node/1310084" rel="nofollow" title="issue for API cleanup sprint">visit the issue page</a>.</li>
