Julian Casablancas Live at Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA 11.02.09

I was going to post this show last week but found a much better quality bootleg. It's Julian Casablancas' show at Spaceland in Los Angeles. It served as a warm-up show for his short residency at the Downtown Palace Theatre. He plays only seven songs but it kind of leaves you wanting more. This is the band's second US show and after playing 'Out of the Blue' he introduces the band as Silversun Pickups. The source of the show is FLAC so the quality is great. The Antlers Release New Single Version of 'Sylvia'

Brooklyn's The Antlers have released a new single that is a new live version of their track 'Sylvia'. The original was featured on their breakthrough 2009 release "Hospice". After recording their Daytrotter they decided to record a new version of the song and release it as a single. This new version of 'Sylvia' was recorded at The Orchard’s NYC studio. It is a minimalist, reverb drenched version of the track. The single came out this week and was released with a video for the track 'Two'. You Say Party! We Say Die! Announce New Album

You Say Party! We Say Die! have announced that they will be retuning to the limelight with a new album. The band took off touring in 2008 to record their new album titled "XXXX"> The band also signed with Paper Bag Records. The new album was produced by Howard Redekopp who has also worked with other Canadian acts sucha as Tegan & Sara, The New Pornographers. The album will be released on February 8 and the band will soon announced Us tour dates that coincide with the released. You can see the tracklisting for "XXXX" below.

Wavves New Band Is Jay Reatard's Old Band

When we last caught up with Mr. Reatard, his band had quit on him and he was not pleased about it. He since has already found a new backing band and so have bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes. It just happens that they joined Nathan Williams in Wavves. It turns out that this was due to ther fact that Zach Hill, who was playing drums for Wavves injured his hand, as he posted on his myspace blog:

so last week in los angeles at wavves practice i somehow mangled/broke/exploded my left hand while playing drums.it was immediately apparent that my injury was a little serious. after stopping practice i was unable to make a fist and my lacerations wouldnt stop bleeding. i visited a clinic and found i had two small fractures. one to the knuckles and one on my pointer finger plus some tweaked ligaments(unable to grip). this isnt a first for me but unfortunately the timing of its forced me to NOT be joining nate on the upcoming european wavves tour. bummer! the entire wavves tour will still go down as scheduled with some friends filling in and backing nate. they’re gonna handle it! hit up the shows! on the upside i should be straight in the hands within a few weeks and will be spending this period working on the new marnie stern album and finishing up my next solo release etc,etc,etc! PEACY P

. Then via The Daily Swarm it turns out that because Williams has a new backing band he will be playing shorter sets during his tour and it is not advertised that he is no loner playing with Zach Hill as one angry poster on the Drowned in Sound message board posted:

BE WARNED if you’re seeing WAVVES live…..

ZACH HILL has broken his wrist and ISN‘T doing the tour (the band or promoter failed to mention this on the door)

WAVVVVVVVESS are only playing a 25 minute set BUT charging full price at the door.

I only came to see Zach Hill drum, but the unreasonable prick promoter wouldn’t give me my money back after only being in the venue under 30 seconds (!) when I found out he wasn’t playing from the merch guy.

So, after no luck of a refund, I thought I may as well stick around and give WAVVVVVVES a chance.

25 minutes for a headlining set?! Nathan Williams didn’t even try and fill up the set by himself to make up for having not bothered to put in last minute man hours to practice with his makeshift band, but instead boasted on stage about going off early to ‘smoke weed’. Ummmmm cooooooooooooollllllll. Maybe it was past his bedtime, the prick looks about 5.

It’s not even like those Jay Reatard guys couldn’t have learnt his second rate No Age rip off songs in 5 minutes. Seriously, that was the LAMEST set by a headliner I’ve seen in YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

Note to WAVVES: Remember not to treat your audience as EXPENDABLE because, there are a million bands out there to choose from to see live, and let’s face it, you’ve got no longevity have you.

You flash in the pan, Macaulay Culkin looking gimp. Go and get stung by bees.

Can this guy not be surrounded by so much controversy for one second?! But hey something good came from this we now know that Marnie Stern is working on a new album.

Yeasayer Posts Interactive Preview for New Video (NSFW)

I've been posting a lot more NSFW things this year. First it was Girls' video for 'Lust for Life' and The Flaming Lips' video for 'Watching the Planets', now the video hasn't even been released but the preview is very NSFW. Like the other videos it would be a surprise if it didn't feature nudity. Yeasayer have posted an interactive preview for their new video. It's actually pretty cool. It lets you watch snippets of what might be the video, there is a group of naked people (yes, men and women), horses, and running on mountanious terrain while being nude and a spaceship thing. Efterklang Announce Details Of Third Album

Efterklang have announced the details for their third album. It will be their first album released on 4AD, which they signed to earlier this year. The album is titled "Magic Chairs" and will be released on February 22 in Europe and February 23 in North America. The band has been working on the album for the last 18 months in Copenhagen and it is said to be their most accessible album. Many of their songs were being worked on as they played the tracks live across North America before they recorded in Denmark. It was mixed by Gareth Jones, their albums are usually mixed by Mads Bauer. This is what the plan have to say about the album:

We are very proud of this record and feel that it introduces a new Efterklang sound. The songs draw inspiration from pop song structures, created and recorded with a live approach and we wanted to display every sound source clearly so that the listener can hear every ingredient of the music.

Acoustic Thursday: Beach House, Pt. 2

A couple of weeks ago I posted Beach House's acoustic version of the track 'Norway', from their new album "Teen Dream", now I remebered about their performance on Black Cab Session of 'Heart of Chambers'. The track is more lively than the original and does not feature a keyboard on it. It's just Victoria Legrand singing beating the drum and Alex Scally playing guitar and singing backing vocals.
